The first day of longboarding, I traced and cut out my longboard after measuring it.  I decided to make my longboard about seven inches wide at the widest part to make it look more old school and because my small feet fit better on it.  After cutting out my board, I realized it needed to be thinner in some places so instead of cutting it more, I sanded around the places that needed thinning and that took off a lot of the excess wood.  Today, it has been all about sanding and shaping and sanding some more.  I plan on finishing the truck holes this afternoon and sanding some more.

Going into the long boarding March intensive, I've skateboarding a little before, and I've built a few things, so I think I'll have a lot to learn this week about expanding those skills. I though I would want a crazy big board but its a little smaller then  I imagined and I like it much more now. We've gotten a lot more work done then I imagined we would in the first morning. I'm mostly just excited to see how the graphics look on all the boards in the end. The main reason I did this was because my mums really into skateboarding so maybe by the end I'll come out with a really good board to make mum proud.

The first day of the Longboard Collective was a lot of fun. I have never used longboards before so I came into the day excited to learn about something that was new to me. We started by learning the proper workshop safety and how to use the tools. I decided to create a type of board similar to the one Wayne brought with him. I like the slim cut and how the design isn’t too complicated. We then used band saws to cut out our design and sanding machines to smooth the edges and curves. I haven’t decided on a graphic yet, but I’m thinking of doing something simple. I want the wood to be the base of my graphic because I think that gives it a nice rustic look.

We've started: Beautiful wood, introduction to shapes and design by Kevin & Wayne, wood shop safety explained by Dave and off we went to select planks and start with drawing board shapes.

What up, Skaters?! This course has been on a 2-year hiatus. Where were we? Exploring the unridden hills of the orient! And now it is time to bring all of those new experiences together in a course that combines design with ancient skating lore. Now for the fine print… This MI course is designed to bring together people with a common interest in exploring longboarding through a hands-on workshop.
