Joe C.
I came in early today to get a head start on shaping my longboard. I brought the board from a rough glue-up all the way to a finely shaped and sanded deck. Right now it’s hanging up in the shop and the lacquer is drying off.  So far I’ve been amazed at how smoothly the process is going. We’ve been staying on schedule and no one has had any major setbacks. Even though each board is unique the instructors have helped everyone to realize their designs very fully.
This morning we started out by cutting big chunks off the boards and hacking out the general shape of our deck. As we went along the work became more subtle, and each phase took a lot more time. Sanding is a pain, but it helps to make the board look like a finished product and put the final touches on the shape.

The time has been flying this week. Every minute that isn’t full of work on the boards can be spent silkscreening various articles of clothing with our Ninja in a Bear logo, or working out some concept art for the helmet competition. I’ve been pleseantly surprised at how much art is involved in this course. Like they said in ‘Dogtown and Z-Boys,’ It’s all about the style. Everything that we’ve done, from the pattern in the wood to the location of the trucks to the graphic on the deck can be customized to match your specifications.
